It's time to Pony Up for Theatre in the Square. Dust off your divot-stomping shoes for an exciting day of polo in Alpharetta's horse country at Chukkar Farm & Polo Club on May 16.

"This is not your ordinary ballroom/chicken or beef roundtable fundraising event," said David Bell, chairman of Pony Up for Theatre in the Square. "The Pony Up benefit combines a fundraiser with an opportunity for fun in the sun with family and friends at Chukkar Farms and Polo Club."

"No need for a tux or ballroom gown to watch a polo event," he added.

In addition to a polo match, there will be music, concessions, a silent auction and a "Best Hat" contest.

Gates open at 1 p.m. Chukkar Farm and Polo Club owner Jack Cashin will host Polo 101 at 1:45 p.m. to brief all first-time polo fans on the art of the sport. The polo match begins at 2 p.m.

Sponsorship packages range from $1,000-$5,000. Single tickets are available for $25 for Theatre in the Square subscribers and $30 for non-subscribers. VIP patron tickets are also available for $400 and include recognition in program and Theatre in the Square website, a table for eight, preferred parking and preferred seating at the event.

Now in its 28th season, Theatre in the Square enjoys one of the largest season subscriber rates in the area, according to Bell. But like most arts organizations, it relies on community support rather than ticket sales alone to cover its costs.

"We are fortunate to have a large subscriber base of patrons. However we must raise funds each year to meet the expenses associated with producing high quality and enjoyable theater," he said. "We are a part of what makes the Square of Marietta and Cobb County a great place to live, work and play. A city thrives when all aspects of the community are growing. Supporting the arts is a must and helps showcase Cobb County as the best place to live in Georgia."

For tickets, call (770) 422-8369, ext. 10, or visit www.theatreinthesquare.com. For event information, including sponsorship opportunities, contact Libby Spencer at (770) 422-8360 ext 22. Rain date is Sunday, July 11. All proceeds support Theatre in the Square's programming.
