MARIETTA - More candidates for local and state races signed up to run Tuesday, the second day of qualifying for the July 20 primary election. The deadline to qualify is noon Friday.

Cobb Republican Party Chairman Scott Johnson said two Republicans qualified for local races. They are Kathleen Angelucci, who is running for Cobb School Board Post 4, a seat held by Dr. John Abraham, who is not seeking re-election; and JoAnn Birrell for the northeast District 3 Cobb Commission seat vacated by Tim Lee. Birrell is the community relations director for Waste Management Corp.

Will Fowlkes, chairman of the Cobb Democratic Party, said no Democrats qualified Tuesday at the local level, but expects they will today and Thursday.

For statewide elections, former Cobb County Chairman Sam Olens, 52, of Marietta, qualified to run for attorney general, as expected. Other Republicans who qualified Tuesday for the attorney general race are state Sen. Preston W. Smith (R-Rome) and Macon attorney Max Wood, 50. Lawyer and Democratic state Rep. Rob Teilhet, 36, of Smyrna, also qualified Tuesday for attorney general.

For insurance commissioner, Republican insurance agent Stephen Dale Northington, 40, of Acworth, qualified.

For local seats in the Georgia Assembly, two more incumbents state senators qualified, including Judson Hill (R-Marietta), 50, lawyer, District 32, and Steve Thompson (D-Marietta), 59, owner of Business Services Co., District 33. Nobody qualified for local House seats Tuesday.

Anyone seeking re-election should be voted out. I will not vote any incumbents. If there is someone without a challenger,I will write in my 96 year old grandmother's name
