Cobblestone Golf Course receiving $617,000 renovation ...

Disgruntled wrote - It is disappointing to know that with all of the budget issues we have today in federal, state, county and city governments that Cobb is willing to spend this money on a golf course. What about increasing fees to pay for the renovations so that the taxpayers will not have to fund them? Perhaps the county should look at the industry and see that all golf courses have taken a hit in this economy and weather pattern. All courses have had the same decreases if not more and that has nothing to do with course conditions! How about the private course operators in Cobb. Can they have a $617,000 tax abatement to redo their courses? Can they stop paying property taxes since the county does not have to pay them either? Private courses have to compete, improve and rely on their business skills to survive. How about you do the same? Come on citizens, stand up and complain or vote out the spin doctors who are trying to convince us this is a good investment.

BarbKA wrote - Oh yeah we need another golf course facelift. Why don't you use it to supplement the teachers' furlough days and give the children an education?

Sherry Lankester wrote - You go Cobb County fix up that golf course and let those potholes wait. After all, more people play golf than drive to work!

Gmonkey wrote - Good idea. Let's fix up golf courses while we cut budgets for Cobb schools. Our kids will only get a little dumber, but we'll have nicer putting greens.

MSF887 wrote - So much for difficult economic times. You'll be able to putt away your worries about your lack of a job and being overtaxed.

Crazy people wrote - Do any of you people that tie the schools into the golf course have a high school diploma or read the paper? The county government and the schools are two different entities and do not share money!

Cobb citizen wrote - I think the cell tower money could go to better use elsewhere, but people should realize the county government and school system are two separate things. If you want more teachers and better education, then hit up the Board of Education

Anonymous wrote - great, a more expensive golf course. What we need is a decent course that the common man can play!

Pat H wrote - Who authorized this when we are eliminating teachers and increasing class size? All funds for the running and renovation of this golf course should come from the fees - if you play golf here you pay for the costs.

Fore Gone revenue wrote - Too expensive, tough to get to and not worth the price. That is why nobody plays. I wonder how much money this thing has lost over the years. Yet no outcry about protecting the taxpayers or getting out of the golf business. That's right, it's a county facility, not a City of Marietta or CCSD facility, so it must be OK. No news story here.

Laura Armstrong column: Accusations, but no proof of slurs, at Tea Party events ...

Mike J. wrote - (U.S. Rep.) David Scott reminds me of Cynthia McKinney. Except Cynthia McKinney was a better congresswoman. Thanks King Roy (Barnes), for giving us all of these "Gerrymandered" Districts.

Mathers wrote - Why is this even a column? Condemn racism and move on to the real issues facing the country. Is that so hard?

Hoax? wrote - What proof do you have that the incident at Scott's was a hoax?

Sam Adams wrote - Sort of like when U.S. Rep. Eric Cantor said someone shot at his office as a threat, yet the police say it was a random shot that had nothing to do with anything. Go figure

Cobb Citizen wrote - How do you know what was said and you were not there? Can't you find something else to write about? Write about Cobb County Schools being in the hole $130 million dollars.

East Cobb mom wrote - Mathers, this might not be important to you, but it certainly is to the GOOD people who are being smeared by liberal pundits and being called racist. Liberals just hate it when the "movement" doesn't belong to them. They figure conservatives don't deserve a "movement" and they smeared the Christian Coalition and now they're trying to smear the economic conservatives too. Racial hoaxes are being documented all the time lately, as are real racial incidents. But the media never writes about the hoaxes, do they? Breitbart has now upped his offer of cash for proof of racist name-calling against John Lewis and the others to $100,000. Do you think if there is a tape of it, that money wouldn't be claimed?

All of you people are obviously not golfers. Too bad, you are really missing out on a wonderful sport. Cobblestone is one of the most beautiful public golf courses in Georgia. Without the renovations the course would continue to decline and would become a tax burden. Not sure how long the payoff will be,but my guess is the tax payers won't be out a penny. And so be it if that happens I can think of far more worse things tax money has been spent on!!!

That's so much money that I am afraid that the course might tip over and capsize!
