PLANNING AND INITIAL construction is under way on MUST Ministries' state-of-the-art medical facility, which will increase patient treatment addressing the needs of more than 10,000 needy families, reminds MUST board member and Cobb Chamber chair Rob Garcia. MUST is hoping to raise $750,000 for the clinic, which will be part of MUST's new headquarters one mile north of the Elizabeth Inn campus on Cobb Parkway.

LAURETTA HANNON - described by Southern Living magazine as "the funniest woman in Georgia" - will be the star attraction at The Cracker Queen Porch Party on May 1 at Judith Ann Photography at 4217 Marietta St., in downtown Powder Springs. Hannon, a Powder Springs resident and National Public Radio commentator, is the author of "The Cracker Queen - A Memoir of a Jagged, Joyful Life." She'll be doing a reading and also unveil a photo exhibit showcasing the real-life characters and events in her autobiography.

The YWCA of Northwest Georgia provides the only shelter for victims of domestic violence in the area. While it has launched a capital campaign to improve the shelter, its ongoing operating expenses are still considerable.
THE COBB LANDMARKS & HISTORICAL SOCIETY will hold its 20th annual spring garden party and heirloom plant sale the weekend of April 23.
The plant sale will take place April 23-24 and will feature old-fashioned perennials, new and unusual varieties, as well as heirloom tomatoes and veggies.

THE KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS from Holy Family Catholic Church in east Cobb will sponsor their 14th annual Carpenter Open Golf Tournament on June 7. The first tourney in 1971 raised $1,400 for local charities. The tournament through the years has brought in nearly $114,000, reports spokesman Phil Pennartz. This year's scramble-format event at Indian Hills Country Club will feature a $125 registration fee, which includes green fees, golf cart, giveaways, breakfast and buffet lunch.

MAKE PLANS TO MEET at the First United Methodist Church of Marietta's Polk Street Park on Saturday, April 10, at 8 a.m. to support the inaugural "Marietta Rotary Club's Park-to-Park Fun Run Event." The course goes from Polk Street Park to Kennesaw Mountain Park and then back to Polk Street for the 10K. The 5K allows runners and walkers to enjoy a detour off Kennesaw Avenue through residential Keeler Woods. First United Methodist Church of Marietta hosts the event to support two of Cobb's most proven ministry groups: The Extension and The Good Samaritan Health Center of Cobb. The race is a USATF certified event and both 5K and 10K races are timed.
