You were on the mark in your editorial calling out the Cobb School System for their lack of transparency in budget talks and in several other issues that have gone on over the last few years. While naysayers may be critical of your coverage, I say that we need more people who will ask the hard questions, not sweeten the words to make everything sound so hunky dory.
My kids have grown up in the CCSD. I have been a substitute teacher and have taught interactive science programs in almost every Cobb School. I have spoken with teachers who have spilled their guts to me about all their frustrations with the system. I have never seen a CCSD board member in a classroom. I have, however, seen Chip Rogers, my local state Senator, in several classrooms while I was doing a program.
What makes our board members qualified to make the hard decisions? It is all politics and egos driving the decisions.
We need to take our school system back, we need people on the board who have the experience, who don't play politics, who don't play the good ole boy system, who have a brain and can make good decisions. We need people who aren't power hungry, egomaniacs.
This is a tough time. Our economy is in a downward spiral; our schools will bear the brunt of it. Let's make the right decisions when it comes to our kids. Every parent needs to be involved in what happens in our schools. I am saddened by the state of our Cobb County School affairs. I call on parents to get educated on what is going on.
