The Strand is bringing the beach to "Mariettaville" at the highly energetic, outrageously fun Jimmy Buffett Tribute Show. Patrons are requested to show their island spirit by wearing beach clothes, even if it means wearing a sweater underneath - the cheesier, the better!
The Strand will serve frozen margaritas to quench your thirst for sunny days, and you'll love the warm weather-inspired silent auction benefitting the Strand.
The show begins at 8 p.m. There will be a tropical organ concert by Ron Carter and audience sing-along at 7:30 p.m. The lobby, silent auction and bars open at 7 p.m. IDs will be checked at the door. Tickets are $10 in advance and $12 at the door.
"I'm thrilled to be returning to Marietta to play the Earl Smith Strand Theatre. Anytime we come back to my hometown is fantastic, but to get to see and participate in a fun event in a place that was such a huge part of my youth is going to be a real highlight," said Chaz McDonald, A1A guitarist and vocalist.
"I am very impressed with the terrific job that all the staff has done with the Strand to return it to its past glory, and A1A is proud to be a part of the new community tradition of arts and theater on the Marietta Square. Oh, and if anyone found a blue Braves cap with the red "A" logo up in the balcony, it's mine. I left it there back in ... well, a long time ago," McDonald said.
Internationally recognized as the Official and Original Jimmy Buffett Tribute Show since 1992, A1A is the only band sanctioned by Jimmy Buffett himself. Having appeared all over the U.S., Mexico, Costa Rica and Japan, A1A brings to life a highly energetic, colorful, family-friendly concert experience that brings in the fresh ocean breezes of tropical flavor that is akin to being at Jimmy's show.
Jeff Pike, singer and originator of A1A, has appeared in the video "Fruitcakes" and shared the stage with Buffett, as well as performed with Coral Reefer's (Buffet's band) Nadirah Shakoor, Greg "Fingers" Taylor, Amy Lee, Peter Mayer, Michael Utley and Robert Greenidge.
"From his music, his books and his lifestyle, you would think Jimmy Buffett invented the word 'escapism.' The A1A Jimmy Buffett Tribute band brings escapism and that amazing land of 'Margaritaville' wherever they go," said the Strand's Director of Business Development & Marketing Christy Rosell.
"Thankfully, A1A's next stop is The Strand, and patrons can count on good music, good times, and, most importantly, good margaritas."
The Strand is located at 117 North Park Square in Marietta. More information is available at www.EarlSmithStrand.org or (770) 293-0080. The box office is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., or two hours before the show.
