MARIETTA - The YWCA of Northwest Georgia will honor 15 local women Friday at the 25th annual Tribute to Women of Achievement to be conducted at the Cobb Galleria Centre.

"These individuals truly represent the very best in our community," said Cobb County Juvenile Court Judge Juanita Stedman, who is serving as honorary co-chair for the event.

During the event, YWCA will select one woman to be Woman of the Year. Honorees are chosen for demonstrating positive leadership in their personal and professional endeavors. They are leaders at businesses, nonprofits and in volunteer arenas. The awards dinner begins at 7 p.m. A silent auction will be conducted at 5:30 p.m. The Kathryn Woods Racial Justice Award will be given to Lockheed Martin Aeronautics Company in Marietta. The Tribute to Women of Achievement is the largest annual fundraiser for the YWCA of Northwest Georgia. The dinner and silent auction helps raise awareness for the programs and services provided to victims of domestic violence and sexual assault. For tickets, call Kimberly Jorgensen at (770) 423-3582.

Why no coverage?

Why hasnt there been any coverage of the event, the honorees, and the woman named "Woman of the Year". You built up this event and I attended partly based upon the pre-event coverage. It was a wonderful and worthwhile gathering. I am disappointed that no reporters from the MDJ attended and that there has been no coverage of the event. It would be nice to know how much money was raised for the YWCA, but most importantly, a good review of the event has the potential to increase support/attendance next year.
