Tracy Payne, 52, of 3327 Timbers Edge Drive, was charged with manufacturing marijuana because police said she aided, abetted and encouraged her son to grow the drug. Charlie Payne, 17, was charged with manufacturing marijuana and intent to distribute. Police said Charlie Payne was growing four marijuana plants in his bathroom and was also in possession of 12 Alprazolam pills, an anxiety medication, with no prescription, indicating intent to sell the prescription medicine and the marijuana.
Cobb Police spokesman Officer Joe Hernandez said officers found the pot plants while investigating a burglary at the Payne home on March 5. Payne had reported two missing laptop computers to police that day.
The mother and son were arrested 12 days later, on March 17, and booked in to Cobb County Jail. Tracy Payne posted a $2,500 bond and was released Thursday morning. Charlie Payne posted a $15,000 bond and was released Friday morning.
Police are still actively investigating the reported laptop burglary.
