The information presented in the article by Kathryn Dobies in the Feb. 17 edition of the MDJ, titled "CCSD member proposes changing public comment," indicates that Cobb County School District board member David Banks doesn't like the public very much. If that be the case, pray tell me: Why did he aspire to elected public service? Hasn't he learned yet that it is an inalienable right of every American citizen, under the U.S. Constitution, to appear before any public meeting, of any elected governing body, to present a petition for redress of grievances, face to face, eyeball to eyeball and not on recorded TV, over drinks? If he doesn't think a half hour is enough for public comment at every board meeting, why doesn't he simply suggest changing it to one hour or more?
The primary reason for the existence for the board on which he chose to serve is to act as an interface between the public and the school administrators. What rock has he been living under since his childhood?
Did he ever take Social Studies in school? If he considers his constituents to be such bothersome abstractions, why doesn't he move to some country where dictatorial rule is in vogue? Cuba or Haiti come to mind.
I know a lot of citizens of Cobb who wouldn't miss him.
