MARIETTA - Police entered a Garrison Road apartment just before noon Monday and found a deceased 15-month-old in a bedroom and his father in the bathroom, dead from a self inflicted gunshot wound, Marietta Police spokeswoman Officer Jenny Murphy said.

The cause of the toddler's death remains under investigation. Details of the injuries he sustained were not released since the autopsy is not yet complete.

Murphy said the father, Everett Jackson, 25, went to a bus station Monday to pick up the toddler's mother, who was coming in from out of town. The couple has two other children, who Jackson had dropped off at a neighbor's apartment before going to the bus station.

When the mother arrived home, she saw the toddler and called 911. Murphy said it is unclear when Jackson shot himself, whether it was before or after the mother called 911.

Murphy said she did not believe Jackson and the mother were married, but lived together at the apartment, at 28 Garrison Road, Apartment 1, in the Whispering Oaks Apartment Complex in Marietta.

Their two other children were placed in protective custody, as a matter of procedure, Murphy said. Murphy was unsure if any charges will be filed against the mother.

Anyone with any information on this case is asked to call Marietta Police at 770-794-5300.
