Fortunately, a good Samaritan fought the dog off the girl with a piece of wood, Cobb Sgt. Dana Pierce said.
Pierce said the girl was walking home from getting off her school bus in the mobile home park at 1101 East Side Drive around 3 p.m. when the roughly 115-pound pit bull came from one street over and attacked her. A man came to her assistance and hit the dog with a piece of wood before placing the girl in his truck and driving her to WellStar Kennestone Hospital, Pierce said.
"It could've been worse had the good Samaritan not gotten the dog off her," Pierce said.
Once at Kennestone, an off-duty Marietta police officer called Cobb Police. Meantime, there was "quite the fear when she showed up there, so they airlifted her to (Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at) Egleston, where her family met up with her," Pierce said.
Further details on the girl's condition were unknown as of late Tuesday.
Pierce said the dog was signed over to Animal Control and will be euthanized and tested for rabies today. The dog's owners are expected to be charged with failing to control an animal.
Pierce said there were roughly 15 other dogs running loose in and around the mobile home park.

I hope the girl is doing well. Please do a follow up story to find out what became of the family who owned the dog. Also, when the police drive thru these parks can't they get animal control dispatched to round up these animals? Come on !!!!
so better talk about the great day we have today.
Then on the other side of Dobbin's is the Franklin Road area! No wonder house values in Smyrna are in the toilet!! I am sick & tired of these illegal alien enclaves being allowed right under our noses!
Don't tell me these dogs aren't dangerous. When's the last time you heard this story with a poodle as the aggressor?
