All Cobb kids got out of school an hour early Friday as snow began blanketing the county. Cobb's higher education institutions also cut classes short as a safety precaution.

Although the snow did not begin falling until around 1:30 p.m., Cobb County School District and Marietta City Schools announced mid-morning that classes would be dismissed one hour early. The Cobb district also canceled all Friday and Saturday extracurricular activities and events. MCS canceled Friday evening activities.

Kennesaw State University closed its campus and canceled classes at 3 p.m. Friday. Southern Polytechnic State University closed its campus at 2 p.m., along with all business except for Continuing Education. All classes after 2:30 p.m. at Chattahoochee Technical College were canceled.

Snowballs were being thrown on the Marietta Square on Friday afternoon.

Nicolette Powell, 9, and her dad Joseph Powell were out enjoying the flurries. Joseph, who works across the street at Cobb County Community Development Department had picked up his daughter early from school at Baker Elementary and decided to bring her out on the Square for some fun in the snow.

"I couldn't keep her couped up in my office any longer, I just have a small cubicle," Joseph Powell said.

Nicolette said her favorite part about the snow is playing in it.

"It's really pretty and I like catching it in my mouth," Nicolette said.

Two students and one of their teachers from Pebblebrook High School were out taking pictures in the snow on the Square.

Alisha Murray, 17, Breshaye Smith, 16, and Deanna Lane, 26, said they had just come from the funeral of a Pebblebrook teacher and decided to lighten the mood and enjoy the snow.

Smith, who is a lifelong Georgia resident, said she had never seen snow come down that heavy before.

Storeowners around the Square didn't seem phased by Friday's snowfall.

Peter Johnson, the owner of Kathy's Too, said he didn't have plans to close, but did admit traffic had been slower since it started snowing.

"We did alright until the snow came, and we've kind of ground to a halt now," Johnson said of the store's business on Friday.

Cobb and Marietta police said there had been no serious accidents as of around 6 p.m. Friday.

Cobb County announced that the medicine disposal day at the Cobb County Senior Center today would be cancelled. For more information on a rescheduled date visit www.cobbcounty.org/kcb.

what delightful pictures and article! hope it reminded your readers, as it did this one, that despite all negative news, and the economic struggles we all face, that life is really good. And, a blanket of snow in Georgia is solid proof of the same.
