Six-time Grammy Award-winning star Florence LaRue and the 5th Dimension will take you Up, Up and Away on Saturday evening at 8 p.m. The group will perform original songs for fans of all ages at the Cobb Civic Center's Jennie T. Anderson Theatre, located at 548 S. Marietta Parkway.

Rising to fame during the late '60s and early '70s with hits such as "Up, Up and Away" and "Aquarius/Let the Sunshine In", the 5th Dimension performs a broad range of music from light opera to R&B to pop.

"Some years ago someone described our music with a phrase I really like: 'Champagne Soul,'" said Florence La Rue, original band member of 44 years.

Unlike many groups that have adapted to the times of rap and hip-hop, the 5th Dimension, originally known as "The Versatiles," stays true to their sound.

"Since there were five members of the group and there is no fifth dimension, we made the fifth Dimension our dimensional sound," LaRue said. The group's hit song "Aquarius/Let the Sun Shine In," a medley of two songs from the hit Broadway musical "Hair," exemplifies their unique sound.

Invited by the producer of "Hair" to the musical when he returned a lost wallet to a 5th Dimension band member, the band wanted to record "Aquarius" because it spoke their message of peace, harmony and love. The 5th Dimension's producer suggested incorporating "Let the Sunshine In" since a cast album of "Aquarius" existed. The group's tune went platinum.

"For the older people, the show is going to bring back some memories. For the younger people it will introduce them to some fun music," LaRue said. "The older people can hear their favorite 5th Dimension songs as they were recorded with no hip-hop or changes."

"Even though I am the only original member of the group, we use the same arrangements," said LaRue, who is also touring with her one-woman show. "We have the same quality as the 5th Dimension. Some people have even said we're better."

The 5th Dimension offers wholesome entertainment for everyone. "We are one of the few clean cut, square groups left out here that's bringing music to the whole family," said the entertainer, actress and humanitarian. "I'm proud to present music to young people that is positive and uplifting. People from 8 to 80 love our music."

"It's a fun, fun family entertaining show," LaRue said.
