Joseph D. Daniel (JD), of Smyrna, Georgia died Feb. 6, age 93. Spouse Eddie Lee Wilson Daniel Deceased. Survivors include children: Judy Daniel, Kathy Bishop and Stephen E. Daniel (spouse Penny), 5 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. He graduated Marietta High School in 1936, trained as a butcher and moved to Smyrna in 1939. He served in the Navy during WWII. He then opened his first Grocery store in Atlanta. He opened his first Smyrna grocery store in 1948 and later opened the first Cobb County self serve grocery store on Atlanta Road. In 1959 he built Jonquil Plaza. Businesses later included: five Grocery stores, retail operations and rental properties in Cobb County. He was a member of Smyrna First United Methodist Church, Charter Member of the Smyrna Rotary Club, awarded multiple Paul Harris Fellowship Awards and member of the American Legion, Post 160. Family will receive friends Wednesday, Feb. 10, from 2-4pm and 6-8pm at Carmichael Funeral Home in Smyrna. The funeral will be Thursday, Feb. 11, 2pm, Carmichael's Chapel. Interment will be at Georgia Memorial Park Cemetery, Cobb Parkway. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Smyrna First United Methodist Church or the Rotary Foundation: "Memory of Smyrna Rotarian J.D. Daniel." I remember Mr. J.D. when he had the Red Dot Store. Sometimes he would tell us young boys: "You better keep those hands in your pockets or they will get you into trouble".

He knew us well. He will be missed.

My smypathy to family. I shopped the Oakdale store the Jonquil store and appreciate what he contribted to the community of Smyrna
