Call me old-fashioned but if Ronald Reagan were still around I doubt we would be fretting over Iran and their nuclear weapons or worrying about the civil rights of terrorists. We would be sleeping better at night.

The Iranians claim they are enriching their store of uranium for “peaceful purposes.” If you believe that, I’ve got a bridge in Brooklyn that I will sell you.

Iran is building a nuclear weapons stockpile and will use it on Israel and anybody else the first chance they get, including us. I have no confidence in the Obama Administration to do anything about it. I’m not even sure they know the definition of “terrorist.”

The Obama Administration seems intent on trying the 9-11mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammed in a U.S. court near Ground Zero, site of the attack that destroyed New York’s World Trade Center. Obama said using the traditional judicial method was a "virtue of our system" in which we should all take pride. He has to be kidding, right? What we Americans would take pride in is frying Mohammed’s butt on the courthouse square. This guy is a terrorist, not a Wall Street robber baron.

This is the same administration that claimed the “system worked” when an alert passenger thwarted a terrorist’s efforts to blow up a Delta flight on Christmas Day with a bomb in his underwear. None of the intelligence officials who specialize in terrorism were consulted about the decision to read Umar Farouk Abdul Mutallab his Miranda rights and treat him like a petty thief who stole a candy bar from the 7-11. I am sure Americans take pride in that, too, Mr. President.

Terrorists have to be laughing their heads off at this Administration. These kinds of people, including that trash-talker president in Iran, know and respect only one thing and it is not our judicial system. It is a “Don’t Tread on Me” attitude. Mess with us and we will turn you into a charcoal briquette. Instead, Barack Obama wants to play nice with these thugs. Where is Ronald Reagan when we need him?

Dick,

You've got to be kidding me about Ronald Reagan, On October 23, 1983 when 278 US Marines died in Beirut, Lebanon and Reagan did nothing! He later violated his own terrorism policy by trading arms for hostages in what came to be called the Iran-Contra scandal. He also looked the other way while Oliver North and the CIA imported Cocaine into the US using military aircraft thru Miami, LA and New Orleans to fund the Contras.

On September 12, 2001, Bush, Cheney, Rice and and Rumsfeld immediately starting hatching a plan to blame 9/11 on Iraq and they lied to the world in order to take out Saddam Hussein. Remember the claims of the WMD's that were never found. Obama has finally taken the "war on terror" to the terrorist 8 years after that horrible day when over 3,000 innocent civilians died.

samuel adams, so I'm confused - when the Bush admin would constantly prattle on about how terrorism was treated like a law enforcement problem prior to 9/11 - that wasn't blaming the previous admin? When they talked about clinton trying to kill osama with a cruise missle instead of really tackling the problem head on - that wasn't being critical of the previous admin?

they did their own share of blaming.

and Bush sat in that classroom for more than 10min after being told we are under attack mr president. frankly, one hour or 10min... if you're the president and you've been told the US is under attack.. uh, you get up and leave. period.

and obama went to harvard. bush went to yale.

Sir people like you are the sole reason why others hate the USA.It is so sad that the majority of americans do not know what our foreign policy really stands for.It is "I THE USA HAVE THE RIGHT TO RUN THE WORLD AND DICTATE WHAT EVERY COUNTRY CAN AND CANNOT DO WITH THE SOLE EXCEPTION OF ISREAL".You need to think about that:what give us the right, why is it if one want truth, one must receive it only from the USA or Isreal.Come on sir, stop being an idiot and learn to love one another and treat others you meet as you which to be treated and put the bombs down man.

Dave55, you forget that the WTC was bombed first in 1993, during the Clinton years. And because of the way that was handled and the fact that he downgraded the State Department's Office of Counterterrorism in ensuing years, it probably contributed to 9-11-01. Yet we NEVER heard the classy George Bush or any of his people blaming Clinton, when they could have done so at almost every opportunity. And the idea that Bush continued to speak to the elementary school class for an hour after the initial strike on 9-11 is a complete fallacy that only idiots and liberals (sorry to be redundant) continue to spew. Time to get some Reaganites into office and let this foreign policy disaster of a president return to the hallowed halls of adademia, which is where he belongs. He loves so to hear the sound of his own voice, yapping on about how great HE is and how HE's the one blah blah blah. He and the Taliban spokesman at Yale could form a teaching partnership and let all the America haters follow them....

Ahhh, the World Trade Centers got bombed during GW's term, and he talked to school kids for an hour after hearing about it. GW was totally ineffectual in dealing with Iran's nuclear (nuklur) buildup. The carrot/stick of sanctions seem to be the only meek means to address the situation, albeit in a superficial manner. At least in N. Korea we have the Chinese/US debtor nation relationship to impact policy. Gates is still in charge of defense, and that makes me sleep better at night than any pronouncments by this white house.

Dick you are once again dead right. I cant tell you how many times in the last couple of years I have uttered that same thought to myself" "Where is RR when we need him"? The refreshing thing about him was that you never had to wonder where he stood on an issue and he always defended his positions with eloquence, intelligence and common sense. If we could only get a conservative politician today who could/would do the same thing....

Dick - I looked back through your columns from the day richard reid attempted to blow up that plane all the way through his indictment and sentencing and could not find one word from you on how horrible it was that he was read his rights 5min after he was apprehended or that he was processed through our judicial system. Can you help me here? I even looked at each of your annual wrap up columns and letter(s) to your grandsons - nothing.

Except this "Nothing and I mean absolutely nothing is more important than good character. Never say anything you don't mean so you won't give anyone any reason not to trust your word"

So, given that sentiment - please, can you help me find that column you wrote pointing out how weak and ineffective we were when we captured, tried, and convicted the british citizen Richard Reid aka "the show bomber"?

in your own words, I'd say your character depends on it.

Based on his dealings with the Iranians, selling them weapons to fund the Contras, Ronald Reagan would probably be selling them uranium for money to fight Hugo Chavez. I feel a HECKUVA lot safer without Reagan -- and the entire Republican Party -- handling our national security.

Thank goodness for this today, after reading Bill Press' ridiculous column about how Obama is tough on terrorists. What's even worse, Dick, is that even us conservatives are pining for the Clinton days again. How rough is it when the Clintons begin to look good compared to what we have right now. And of course, Obama supporters keep telling me, "Let the man have a chance, he just got in" and "I don't need to hear the details. He's still cool." They shouldn't be allowed to vote.
