MARIETTA - There wasn't much surprise in the girls meet of the Cobb County Championship on Saturday at Mountain View Aquatic Center.

Lassiter won as expected.

The Lady Trojans used their depth and their relay expertise to claim their ninth county title in the last 10 years with 624 points.

Walton finished second with 578 points, followed by Pope (340), Harrison (299) and Kennesaw Mountain (289).

Walton may have swept the 200-yard medley relay and the 200 freestyle relays, but Lassiter was second in both events. Both teams bested the previous meet record in the 200 medley relay.

But it was the Lady Trojans' 400 freestyle relay team that iced it with an All-American time of 3 minutes, 32.71 seconds.

There were individual standouts as well.

Sammie Bosma won both sprint freestyle events and set a meet-record time of 51.35 in the 100 freestyle. Kim Carducci also produced solid swims, finishing second behind Bosma in the 100 freestyle and third in the 50 freestyle.

Sarah Williford grinded out a victory for Lassiter in the 500 freestyle (4:58.67), while Shannon O'Malley clinched a win in the 100 breaststroke (1:05.45). Also helping Lassiter was having as many as two individual swimmers or more place in the top 10 in all its individual events.

"It was just stellar. Where do I begin?," Lassiter coach Glenn Meeden said. "It was utterly fantastic. It put the whole team on fire when Sammie won the 50 free."

Bosma won the 50 freestyle in 24.04, beating Walton standout and Cobb Stingrays teammate Erin Reisinger in the process. Bosma also had to outrace experienced Walton sprinter Jessica Graber.

"I don't think I've ever beaten Erin in high school," Bosma said. "We've been best friends since we were 7, and there are some days when she wins and some days when I win."

Reisinger prevailed in the 100 backstroke in 56.10 and helped the 200 medley relay set a meet record with a time of 1:38.11. Adrienne Pilchard also came through with second-place finishes in the 200 individual medley (2:07.94) and 500 freestyle (5:00.95). MaryRose Palermo placed second in the 100 butterfly (58.51).

ANOTHER biased article by this hack reporter. Guess what, look at the point spread between Lassiter and Walton It was not a lock by any means but if you have been reading for the last 3 days its was all Lassiter. Not fiar for the Lassiter kids or any of the other team participating. How about some balanced reporting next time HACK.
