EAST COBB - Lassiter High School was placed on lockdown for an hour Thursday morning after a woman reported to police that she had been attacked in nearby Harrison Park near the intersection of Shallowford and Sandy Plains roads in east Cobb.
The attack was reported to police at around 9:30 a.m. The unidentified woman, described to be in her mid 30s, reported that she was walking on a trail at the park when a 6-foot-tall male, wearing a mask and dressed in black, attacked her and suddenly fled on foot.
The woman was transported to WellStar Kennestone Hospital for treatment, Cobb Police spokesman Officer Joe Hernandez said.
"She is out of Kennestone Hospital and is in good condition," he said. "Right now investigators are working up leads on the claims made by the female, however, at this time there is a lack of evidence to support the claims."
Officers from the Cobb Police Department, Cobb Sheriff's Office and campus police at nearby schools responded to the site of the alleged attack. A police K-9 unit also responded, but was unsuccessful in tracking down a suspect, Hernandez said.
A Lassiter employee told the Journal that the school was placed in lockdown at around 10 a.m. Cobb Police said the school remained in lockdown until around 11 a.m. Other nearby schools in east Cobb were placed on alert until the district received clearance from police, Cobb School District spokesman Jay Dillon said.
