Hutson Mason has been named to a number of all-county and all-region teams since his outstanding senior season at Lassiter.

Now, he can call himself a Parade All-American after the Lassiter quarterback and Georgia commitment was selected to the prestigious squad this week.

"It's a pretty high honor to be selected to an All-American team, especially the Parade team," Mason said. "It's very humbling to be a part of this."

Mason was among 58 players from around the nation, and one of seven quarterbacks, honored by the magazine, which has come out with an All-American squad every year since 1963.

Many of the Parade All-Americans over the last 46 years have gone on to stardom on both the college and NFL level, including John Elway, Emmitt Smith, Randy Moss and Junior Seau.

Mason was one of only three players from the state of Georgia who were selected, joining Calhoun wide receiver Da'Rick Rogers and Newnan defensive back Alec Ogletree, both of whom are expected to join Mason in Athens next fall.

Mason found about his selection Wednesday after getting a text message from Lassiter coach Chip Lindsay.

"(On Wednesday), coach texted me about making the Parade All-American team and I was like, 'What? No way!'" Mason said.

The Parade honor was just the latest for Mason, who was named the county's best player by the Marietta Daily Journal and Cobb Touchdown Club, and the state's top player by Gatorade and the Associated Press.

The praise has come after a memorable senior season at Lassiter in which he threw for 4,560 yards and 54 touchdowns - both state records - and led the Trojans to their first Region 6AAAAA title and first state-quarterfinal appearance.

"The Lord has blessed me this season," Mason said. "I never thought I would throw 56 touchdown passes this season. I worked hard during the offseason, throwing passes to my teammates, working on my timing. All the hard work has paid off."
