With National Signing Day less than a week away, most football recruits are winding down the process.

If they haven't yet announced a verbal commitment, many who are close to deciding where they will begin their collegiate careers will make that indication Wednesday.

Making that decision hasn't been easy for everyone.

McEachern running back Rajaan Bennett has received nearly a dozen scholarship offers for programs ranging from Wisconsin to UAB. Rising to the top of the stack have been three Southeastern Conference teams - Kentucky, Tennessee and Vanderbilt - that provide a place for him to play early and stay close to home.

Bennett, who ran for more than 1,800 yards during the Indians' 10-1 campaign in 2009, said it's important to play for a program where his family will be able to see him.

"I want my mom to be able to see me play," said Bennett, who was raised by his mother after his father died, "and I want to be around if she needs me."

At least one of Bennett's teammates has been a bit more decisive. Cornerback Demarius Matthews verbally committed to Georgia State on Tuesday, spurning an offer from Western Carolina, and will have the chance to suit up for the Panthers' in their inaugural season this fall.

McEeachern offensive lineman Tarik Milner has narrowed his choices to Jacksonville State and Fordham.

Lassiter's Griffin Roelle, who excelled this season along side prolific Trojan passer Hutson Mason, drew some additional interest this week as the running back got a visit from East Carolina offensive coordinator Lincoln Riley. Meanwhile, teammate Marcus Stokes has stayed firm to the verbal commitment he gave to Western Carolina in late December.

Kell's Cole Kropacek made a verbal commitment to Jacksonville State, while teammate Cody Tomlinson has verbally committed to Georgia State. According to Kell coach Derek Cook, Tomlinson is not firm in his decision to sign with the Panthers and is now considering Samford.

Walton has several players, who have not yet declared their intentions, including defensive end Chris Mooney, who has an offer from Georgia State.

Sprayberry wide receiver Jerick McKinnon has offers from Air Force, Austin Peay, Georgia State and the Naval Academy, but has not announced his commitment.

Kennesaw Mountain's Steven DeCarlo plans to ink with Elon on National Signing Day, while Marietta running back Greg Franklin is ready to decline offers from Georgia, Kentucky, North Carolina State and Vanderbilt to attend UAB.
