Legislators should step in against school board

DEAR EDITOR:

I am demanding for myself and every citizen of Cobb County an explanation as to how many illegal activities and egregious abuses of citizens' rights have to happen before the state will step in and stop this out-of-control Cobb school board. Our legislators should not even begin to absolve their responsibilities by talking about "local control" or that it should be taken care of at the ballot box. Under our system of checks and balances, our state elected officials should step in when local governments are acting illegally or abusing their power. As anyone can read from the quotes by board members Dr. John Abraham, Lynnda Crowder-Eagle and Superintendent Fred Sanderson, they are completely unfazed by this grand jury investigation and will continue business as usual. If the Cobb grand jury launched an investigation and admonished the school board, there is obviously a huge problem.

Abraham, Crowder-Eagle and Sanderson are far too arrogant to step down or even admit any wrongdoing on their own. Our state elected officials are obligated to now do everything in their power to make sure that this board and administration face serious consequences. The taxpayers in Cobb County deserve answers.

This entire letter is nuts. Why would anyone in their right mind want to give the legislators even more headway in local government? Their role is to represent their communities in matters of statewide interest, not to meddle in other elected bodies. It wasn't an "investigation" (as Mrs. Jackson smolderingly put it), but part of a routine system of oversight.

A TID BIT OF INFORMATION TO FUEL THIS FIRE EVEN MORE SHOULDN'T SOMEONE ASK THE SCHOOL BOARD WHY THEY JUST PURCHASED 3 FORD ESCAPES COSTING APPROX. $18000.00 EACH FOR THE SPLOST DEPARTMENT AND NEED I ALSO MENTION COBB COUNTY SCHOOLS IS STILL TRYING TO FORCE THE HOURLY EMPLOYEES TO TAKE ANOTHER 3 FURLOUGH DAYS! THE PROJECTS THAT THIS MONEY IS SUPPOSE TO GO TOWARDS ARE THEY INFLATED TO COVER UP RIDICULOUS PURCHASES LIKE THIS. A TRUE HOUSE CLEANING NEEDS TO TAKE PLACE FROM THE BOARD DOWN TO THE INCOMPETENT TRANSPORTATION MANAGER. THE ONLY WAY THE EMPLOYEES AND TAXPAYERS ARE GOING TO GET ISSUES RESOLVED AND WRONG DOINGS STOPPED IS IF THE GOVERNMENT STEPS IN. COBB COUNTY SCHOOLS HAS GOTTEN AWAY WITH SO MUCH FOR SO LONG THIS IS NO SURPRISE TO THEM SOMEONE NEEDS TO GIVE THEM A WAKE UP CALL!
