William Ray Adams of Kennesaw recently achieved the Boy Scout rank of Eagle Scout. The Court of Honor was conducted at Roswell Street Baptist Church and attended by fellow troop members, family and friends.

Eagle Scout is the highest rank a Boy Scout can achieve and is attained by only 2 percent of all Boy Scouts. While completing his Eagle Scout requirements at Troop 204 in Marietta, William designed and built a Pergola (covered swing) at Cobb Street Ministries. The project not only beautified the grounds but also provided the residents of Cobb Street a restful place to watch over their children and reflect.

Congratulations to William for your persistence and hard work! William is the son of Donna Rae and Ken Adams of Kennesaw.

Boyce and Mike Phillips celebrated their 30th wedding anniversary on Jan. 12. They enjoyed dinner at Canoe in Vinings, where a surprise bouquet of Tropicana roses and Gerber daisies adorned the table.

The Phillips have resided in Marietta since 1985. Boyce is retiring as a kindergarten teacher in the Cobb County system after this school year; Mike is President of Phoenix Crane Service, Inc., a family owned and operated crane rental company, founded in Cobb County in 1983.

St. Andrew United Methodist Church of Marietta called on members of its congregation and the surrounding community to pray for earthquake victims in Haiti and contribute to relief efforts. The church sponsors a school for young children in Port-au-Prince, the capital of Haiti.

"Opened by St. Andrew in 2005, Andrew Christian School provides 80-100 children in a kindergarten and first grade with opportunities to go to school, learn about Christ, and eat one meal a day in hopes of becoming future leaders of this third world country," said Senior Pastor Mack Riley. "Congregation members help by sponsoring children, going on mission trips, and supporting the school in a variety of other ways.

"We are now asking members of our congregation and the surrounding community to pray for the children who attend Andrew Christian School, their families, the school's director Pastor Jean-Claude Baptiste and the entire school staff," Riley added. "We also ask everyone to contribute whatever they can to support the relief efforts."

Anyone wishing to contribute online to UMCOR's Haiti Earthquake Relief effort can do so at new.gbgm-umc.org/umcor.
