Verne Edward Allgood, 93 of Cartersville formerly of Marietta died Thursday, January 7, 2010. Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday January 9, 2010 at East Cobb United Methodist Church in Marietta with Dr. Brian Germano officiating. Body will be at the church from 12 noon-1:45 p.m. Burial will follow at Marietta Camp Ground Cemetery in Marietta. Mr. Allgood was born July 1, 1916 to the late Lillian Barnes Allgood and Henry E. Allgood. He attended the old Camp Ground Academy beginning in 1922 and was a graduate of Blackwell High School Class of 1935. Mr. Allgood attended Marsh Business College in 1938 and was employed by Davison-Paxon in Atlanta and later by United Motors. He was a veteran of WWII and joined the Air Force in 1952 completing his military service. Mr. Allgood was employed in the Civil Service at Dobbins Air Force Base retiring July 31, 1970 after 28 years of Federal service from a Civilian employment. He was a member of East Cobb United Methodist Church for 77 years serving on several boards and committees. Survivors include his wife, Mary Ellen Simpson Allgood; son and daughter-in-law, Larry & Eva Allgood all of Cartersville; two grandsons & their wives, Lee & Nicole Allgood, Lucas & Kayla Allgood; four great grandchildren, Lillee Allgood, Tyler Allgood, Levi Allgood and Layla Allgood. Family will receive friends from 12 Noon-1:45 p.m. at the church prior to service on Saturday. Our years on Sewell Mill Road were made rich by Verne Allgood. Heaven's gain is our loss. I offer my sympathy to all his family.
