Happy New Year! As I was taking my mother back to the airport yesterday, I saw at least three cars pulled over on the interstates. I couldn’t help but wonder if they were among the Super Speeders targeted by the new law.

The law tacks on an additional $200 charge for drivers topping 85 m.p.h. on four-lane roads and interstate highways, or 75 m.p.h. on two-lane roads. Those extra fines are on top of the original speeding fine set by the local jurisdiction.

Do you think this fine is a good idea? Will it curb speeders? Will it help solve some of the state’s budget crunch?

I'm not sure about the super speeders, Kim, but watch out in your Cobb neighborhoods. I made the mistake of rolling through the nuisance stop in my neighborhood with an "almost stop" and got a $111 traffic ticket. The cop who stopped me was completely right to do so, I admit, but one must wonder if they also sit in "less fortunate" neighborhoods trying to ilk the people, or if they just target those neighborhoods where they know the people will pay to avoid going to court.
