A reception is set for 6 p.m. in the lobby of City Hall, at 205 Lawrence St. in Marietta. The meeting will begin at 7 p.m.
Georgia Supreme Court Justice Harris Hines is scheduled to deliver the oath to Tumlin, followed by the seven council members as a group.
Tumlin said he intends to place his hand on the Bible of his late maternal grandmother, Harriet Brooks Horne, as he takes the oath. Horne was mother to Tumlin's late mother, Virginia, the first woman to receive the Cobb Citizen of the Year Award. Tumlin's wife, Jean Alice, their three children, two grandchildren and Tumlin's sister plan to be in attendance.
The Rev. Dr. Sam Matthews, senior minister at First United Methodist Church, is scheduled to give the invocation.
The meeting begins with the old council convening to adopt the minutes from its last meeting. The only change on council is that Councilman-elect Johnny Sinclair is replacing Holly Walquist, the latter of whom is not expected to be in attendance. The old council will then adjourn and Tumlin will call the new council to order. The only business scheduled is the approval of committee appointments, said Councilman Philip Goldstein.
Tumlin said he's ready to get to work as Marietta's 54th mayor.
"There's been a lot of talk, and now it's time for action. I'm ready to go," he said.
