EDITOR'S NOTE: Below is a selection of responses shared by readers of MDJOnline.com in reaction to recent MDJ stories ...

Bill Dunaway steps down after 8 years as mayor ...

Lives in Fear wrote - Good riddance to bad rubbish! Bill Dunaway's promotion of cronyism, collusion, theft, and secrecy invaded my privacy, promoted his so-called inspectors to collude on their fees to my landlord, then destroyed my neighborhood as well as my opportunity to live out my life in the area I had called home for over 17 years. I laugh in your face now, Mr. Mayor, as the real estate market goes through its correction to bring property values down to reality. It's just too bad these areas have now become vacancies, or worse, barren wastelands. We as citizens just now need to get on board and fight the tax assessors to get our due relief!

FredS wrote - I say Dunaway deserves our gratitude. He got off his couch and tried to make things better, moved things along as far as he could, and stepped down to make way for someone with different skills. That's much preferred to the career politician who holds office for personal gain.

Meowmanor wrote - I grew up in Marietta, but have lived in Smyrna for the last 12 years. I'm so glad to have Max Bacon rather than Bill Dunaway. It really doesn't sound like Dunaway ever got along with anyone attached to the city.

Steve R wrote - One bastion of the secret backroom deal down, now we go for the Cobb school board. I'll bet Councilman Philip Goldstein is crying in his beer, too. He won't be able to intimidate and control new Mayor Thunder Tumlin the way he did Dunaway. A great day for the city of Marietta.!

Ramar97 wrote - Good riddance. He should have been impeached and thrown out years ago. Secrecy belongs to communist countries, not America.

Inger Eberhart letter: Democrats' amnesty scheme unconscionable ...

Craig Schmuk wrote - The Democrats want to get this amnesty pushed because they realize that each one of the illegals represent a vote. A vote that will keep them in power. They are all drunk on power. They do not want to help us; they want to help themselves to a lifelong pension, lavish perks and lavish lifestyles. When will everyone see this? Obviously after it is too late and they realize that we have become part of Mexico and are trying to bail them out as well. Thank you, politicians.

Pat H. wrote - The Republicans also pushed amnesty, in fact, Saxby Chambliss did not even lose his seat. We can no longer forgive and forget these traitors. We need to get rid of all of them because they only represent special interests and lobbyists, not citizens and taxpayers. Another amnesty will be the end of our country as we know it. We need jobs, not additional third-world invaders.

Mary Jane wrote - I totally agree with you. The illegals already have more rights than some Americans. Our government is willing to sell us down the river to save a few bucks on cheap labor. It is time for the American people to stand up for their rights and let the politicians know they cannot sell our country out from under us.

MK power corrupts wrote - The Dems want the votes, the Republicans want the cheap labor. The politicians want the power and they could care less about the American people, or the constitution! From our city halls, all the way to the White House, they don't give a hoot what we say. For instance, at last night's Smyrna's city council meeting, Mayor Max Bacon got up and walked out of the meeting instead of sitting through six minutes of public comment! They don't work for "we the people" any longer. It's all about "How much can you line my pockets with?" The Dems want the "illegal" votes. The right wants the "slave" labor. They sit on their thrones drunk on power as they watch Americans fight it out. It's like a video game to them. Our hopelessness is their win. We have no borders in this country. We have no integrity in our system any more. Our system is broken. China owns us. Americans better get ready for some trying times.

American worker wrote - Hooray for Ms. Eberhart! The Dems are merely the traitors in power at present. Many GOPers will consider voting for amnesty too if they think they can get away with it. Great letter

Mary J Marietta wrote - If the amnesty passes, you can say adios to your country. Who could ever have imagined that we would be attacked by the very people we elect to protect us and by illegal invaders who were allowed in because of political correctness? (MDJ guest columnist) D.A. King is a hero. So is this lady.

Dick Y wrote - Kick me, I am a citizen!

Rodney in Austell wrote - Remember the 1986 Amnesty!

Indian Joe wrote - As with most everything, the American people will complain loudly for a while. Then it is all forgotten and the same people are put right back in office "because my guy/gal is good, and yours is bad. So my rep needs to stay in office, but yours needs to go." It will never end under our current system of government, and when Obama gets his new gun/ammo laws passed by Congress, there will be no stopping anything they want to do. They are banking on Americans having very short memories - and they are right. How can anyone with a conscience vote for a bill when almost 60 percent of the people oppose it (health care)? Of course they voted for it. Don't you understand as with everything they do they know what is best for all of us? Too bad what we think or feel. The only way to stop this illegitimate government is to vote them all out. Sure, like that is every going to happen, and they know it. Give them another three years, and it will no longer be the America anyone over 30 remembers. Then it will be too late.
