Plans have been formulated by the Marietta Women's Club - and are now being executed, for a beautiful and worthy observance of the spirit of Christmas this year.
Christmas Service
There is to be a Community Christmas Tree in the city park on Thursday night before Christmas and every man, woman and child in Marietta is invited to be present and to help in making this a fitting service in commemoration of the birth of the Christ child. The Evergreen, emblem of life everlasting; bright decorations; songs of praise from the carolers; and the "Star" - these are some of the features which will combine in cheering the hearts of those who attend the service.
Small Gifts Are Asked
That our hearts may be more united in this service of praise and thanksgiving, the Woman's Club is asking for contributions of one pound of fruits or confectionaries from those who feel that they want to have a part in brightening the home of someone less fortunate on Christmas morning. But for such contributions by the people of Marietta, there are those in our town who will see only sadness in this beautiful service.
Do your part and bring gladness to every heart; fail to do your part and there may be - there WILL be sadness in some heart.
The Women's Club is making this appeal to the entire community, since its membership is drawn from all the churches and benevolent organizations in Marietta.
If you know of any family in Marietta which is worthy and in need of help, do not fail to communicate the name to Miss Virginia Gibbes, chairman of the Welfare Work of the Woman's Club.
Leave at Times Office
The Cobb County Times has kindly consented to act as a clearing house for those interested, and will receive any contributions to be turned over to the proper committee.
Mrs. S. R. Hewitt has been appointed by the Woman's Club as chairman of the committee on the assembling and distribution of gifts. She will be ably assisted by the girls of the Patriotic League.
The gifts will not be placed on the tree, but will be delivered in person by the committee in charge to worthy and needy families in Marietta.
Just one pound of fruit, of nuts, of candy, etc. Surely there are hundreds in Marietta who will respond to this appeal, who will gladly make the small contribution and help so much in fostering the spirit of "Peace on Earth, Good Will Toward Men."
The music section, Mrs. C. D. Elder, chairman which in connection with Prof. Van Hofe and the various church choirs, has charge of the singing, earnestly requests the cooperation of the parents of Marietta in enlisting their children as Christmas carolers. Is your child a caroler? Will he or she join in singing the "Holy Night," "Silent Night," Hark, Hear the Angels Sing." Won't you parents blend your voices with those of your children in these songs of praise?
The Court House will be placed in condition on Tuesday and Wednesday nights before Christmas; there will be general rehearsals of these carols in the main court room. You and your children are urged to come and join this community singing.
Send your one pound to The Times office and help fill an empty stocking for some child in Marietta.
