Cobb Superior Court Judge Bob Flournoy Jr. ruled on Wednesday that is was “repugnant, gross and very, very, very inappropriate” for then-Marietta High School teacher Christopher King to have had a sexual relationship with one of his 17-year-old students — but added that it was not against any law. Assuming the judge is correct, do you think the relationship was proper? And should the state legislature act to make illegal such relationships between teachers and students, even if the students are over the age of consent?

King was my teacher when I was in highschool a couple years ago, and he was a fun guy to be around. I was shocked to hear of this whole ordeal from old highschool friends, but not entirely surprised. I personally am disgusted by his actions and am in disbelief he would do something so stupid. He had a wife and two small children, a pretty secure job, and lost it all for a 17 year old? And whose to say this was the first time he had done something like that? While the whole ordeal is gross to think about, and I have no pity for him now, I must say it was only lawful that he not be sentenced. Should the law be changed? Yes. That girl's teacher should have been the last person to prey upon her. Badly done King.

I agree the law should be changed. If a teacher faces 10-30 years for sex with a student then students convicted of making false accusations against teachers should also face 10-30.

I am mortified for this family, knowing some crude, lude, pervert sexually assaulted their child and the Georgia legislature allowed this to happen. This will be the new fad of teachers having sex with students. A 17 year old does not have the common sense to know a 36 year old man was telling her whatever she wanted to hear. CHANGE THE LAW! We need to put these men and women that take advantage of high school students behind bars!

The Georgia legislature is responsible for enabling Mr. King to avoid punishment for his reprehensible behavior - they crafted the law in a very sloppy manner and the individuals who who actually did the pinning and approvals should be replacement for incompetance. Do it right this time an do it quickly - just wish it could be retroactive !
