KENNESAW - The future of football at Kennesaw State University is looking closer to reality as famed former UGA coach Vince Dooley acknowledged he has met with KSU officials about creating a football program there.

"I have been visiting with them about a consulting position," Dooley said. He declined further comment.

KSU officials would neither confirm nor deny the news, but said they will make an announcement at a news conference on Dec. 10. Officials earlier said that a football exploratory committee is forming at KSU to determine if a football program would be wanted and supported.

Dooley's comments come after KSU officials announced Tuesday that a new $16.5 million stadium under construction off George Busbee Parkway would be home to womens professional soccer team the Atlanta Beat as well as KSU's womens soccer team. The Kennesaw State University Foundation recently purchased the 21 acres the new stadium in being built on.

KSU officials confirmed that the 8,300-seat stadium could be expanded to as large as 22,000 seats to accommodate football.

Dooley coached 25 years at Georgia. He retired in 1988 after winning 201 games. He was the university's athletic director until 2004.
