Grace Martin Matlock of Marietta died Monday at her home. She was a native and lifelong Marietta resident, the youngest daughter of the late W. H. Martin and Lillian Grogan Martin and the widow of O. Eugene Matlock, Sr. She attended McEachern High School where she was valedictorian. She attended Kennesaw State University and the Atlanta Art Institute at the High Museum in Atlanta. She was an artist and art teacher who was very interested in passing on her knowledge. In her honor and in recognition of her teaching, her children created the Grace Martin Matlock Education Galleries at the Burroughs-Chapin Art Museum in Myrtle Beach, SC. Grace Matlock was a founding member of the Fine Arts Club in Marietta, and a founder of the Georgia Miniature Art Society. She was a member of First United Methodist Church. She is survived by her children, Lily Grace Matlock Hudson (Thomas B. Hudson, formerly of Acworth, GA) of Gambrills, MD and Pawleys Island, SC, O. Eugene Matlock, Jr. (Leslie Gullatt) of Fayetteville, GA and John J. Matlock II of Marietta. Interment services will be at Snow Hill Church in Franklin, NC. Contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to the Grace Martin Matlock Education Galleries at Burroughs-Chapin Art Museum, 3100 South Ocean Boulevard, Myrtle Beach, SC, 29577 or to Snow Hill Methodist Church Cemetery Trust, 330 Snow Hill Road, Franklin, NC. 28734.
