Paul Serdula, 47, of Marietta, is being held in Cobb County Jail without bond. He is charged with three counts of eavesdropping-surveillance. He cannot be charged with sexual assault until a victim comes forward, said Cobb Sgt. Dana Pierce.
Pierce described Serdula's action as "egregious acts primarily against women that were sexual in nature."
"We have hundreds of different videos, and a large portion of those have this conduct on tape," he said. "We're asking for the public's help in locating the victims who were sexually assaulted. What we're trying to accomplish is an enormous task."
On Wednesday, police obtained an arrest warrant for Serdula, accusing him of setting up a video recorder in the women's bathroom of the Goldstein Garber & Salama dental office, 600 Galleria Parkway Suite 800 in Atlanta. Pierce said a woman noticed a hole in the insulation of a pipe underneath the sink and discovered a camera. She immediately dialed 911.
Investigators then seized videos, phones and other items from Serdula's home as evidence, Pierce said.
The videos revealed "inappropriate criminal conduct against persons who were under anesthesia at various medical or dental facilities," police said.
Since Serdula was a contract certified registered nurse anesthetist, he worked for various dental or medical physicians, not one in particular, in the metro area and outside the state, Pierce said.
Police are asking anyone who has had a dental or medical procedure in which they were put under anesthesia to contact their primary care physician and ask if Serdula may have administered the anesthesia.
Potential victims are not required to tell their physician why they want information on their anesthesiologist, Pierce said.
Anyone with information on Serdula is asked to call (770) 499-3945 or e-mail Detectives Christopher Twiggs or William Caldwell at Christopher.twiggs @cobbcounty.org or William. Caldwell@cobbcounty.org.
"Not only do we believe that we potentially have hundreds of victims out there, but we also have evidence that he was operating outside the state," Pierce said. "We don't know how long this activity has been going on, so we're not putting a time frame on it."
