Mr. Billy Truesdell Edens, Sr., age 81 of Smyrna, passed away Wednesday, November 18, 2009. Funeral services will be held 11:00 A.M. Saturday, November 21, 2009 at the Carmichael Funeral Home Chapel in Smyrna with the Revs. Steve Lyle and Barbara Hatchell officiating. Burial will be in the Cheatham Hill Memorial Park Cemetery in Marietta. A native of Florence, SC, Mr. Edens served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict. He was employed by the Atlantic Coastline Railroad, the Association of American railroads and later retired from CSX Railroad after over 40 years. He was a member and past President of the Kiwanis Club. He was an avid horseman, a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was a member of the Smyrna First United Methodist Church and the Friendship Sunday School Class. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert M. and Edna E. Edens and brothers, Robert Earl Edens and Benny Maxwell Edens. Surviving are wife, Sue Edens of Smyrna; son & daughter-in-law, Billy & Jan Edens of Kennesaw; daughter & son-in-law, Sue E. & Charles Gordon of Watkinsville; sister, Gene Edens Bodie of Temple Terrace, FL, Margie Edens Youngblood of Duluth; 6 grandchildren, Jamie G. Jackson, Scott Edens, Kerri E. Hepler, Stacey Kown, Jacob Edens, Ryan Gordon; 10 great grandchildren. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Smyrna First United Methodist Church, 1315 Concord Rd., Smyrna, GA 30080. The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 P.M. Friday November 20 at the Carmichael Funeral Home in Smyrna.
