EDITOR'S NOTE: Below is a selection of responses shared by readers of MDJOnline.com in reaction to recent MDJ stories ...

School board editorial: Enough is enough

The Sarge wrote - This was one of the finest editorials that I have ever read in the MDJ. Every point was spot on. In watching the actions of the Cobb County school board during the meeting I couldn't help but wonder if I was in Clayton County or (for that matter) Nazi Germany.

Grandma in Kennesaw wrote - I agree with the excellent editorial in today's MDJ. All members of the Cobb County BOE should have to resign now. The voters then would elect new members who would listen to the people of Cobb. I doubt any school board member would be re-elected.

More Than Enough! wrote - My son attends a wonderful school (Hillgrove HS) and before that, Lovinggood Middle and Still Elementary. Now I see our infamous school board determined to change Cobb schools from the Best of the Best to the Worst of the Worst. This editorial is Pulitzer material! It should be brought to the attention of every voting household so these board members can be ousted once and for all. Read it. Print it. E-mail it. Facebook it!! Get the word out on what these phonies are doing to your kids! It's not the harm they're causing with a do-nothing attitude, but rather the devastation that is resulting from their "do all the wrong things" agenda. Parents, we need to keep our schools awesome! We need the kind of leadership worthy of our students and parents: leadership that will keep Cobb Schools the cream of the crop. Get rid of the fiascos. Vote them out while there is still time!

School Advocate wrote - If SACS finds no leadership/management issues and does nothing, then SACS needs to lose it accreditation and disband and return all taxpayers money collected over the years. Cobb schools are successful in spite of the Glover Street leadership! The building leaders do a great job along with the classroom teachers and parents in providing learning opportunities for Cobb students.

Amy wrote - Great editorial. You summed it up nicely! I have had enough of this whole Cobb school system. Private schools are looking better and better. I just wish there were vouchers and I had a choice!

School board has $73M SPLOST funds left over ...

Alan wrote - Board member Dr. John Crooks says he doesn't know when the board will vote. I do! They will vote when they can sneak the matter onto the agenda and not cause a "circus."

Susan W wrote - I don't understand. What does building science labs at a bunch of middle schools have to do with removing trailers all over the county? There are over 300 mobile classrooms. What does getting rid of the 13 at Clarksdale have to do with getting rid of the other 287 mobile classrooms. My child is in one of those classrooms, every rainy day, and there have been many, he comes home wet. He has two pairs of shoes to wear to school so that he doesn't go to school in wet shoes. He also takes extra clothes to school in his backpack just in case he is so wet when he returns to the classroom. And an extra 20 minutes or more of teaching is lost every day because of the long walks to and from the main building for specials, lunch, bathroom breaks. ... This is unacceptable.

Spending Fools wrote - The ease with which Clarkdale students were absorbed into neighboring schools highlights the need for a countywide redistricting. We are building new classrooms and housing students in trailers while nearby schools are under capacity. In these tough economic times, why would we add classrooms and the accompanying operating costs when there are classrooms sitting vacant at existing schools?

Accreditation officials visit Cobb schools ...

Really? wrote - I guess these parents want Cobb to be like Clayton County ... not smart my friends ... not smart.

West Cobb wrote - to Really: Actually it appears their purpose is to make sure that Cobb does not end up like Clayton. SACS will not jerk their accreditation, but simply give them a warning. I am quite sure the voters and business leaders of Cobb will make sure the ship is righted if this did occur. So for all of those out there who believe in trying to improve on the operational side of Cobb Board of Education, you are very short-sighted. A bunch of "yes" men has never improved on any institution or company.

It's laughable wrote - To think that some think they can use SACS to "rid ourselves of detritus on Glover Street" BTW. ... They are in Decatur everyday and you can talk to them everyday.
