COBB COUNTY - The National Weather Service issued a flood warning late Tuesday for Nickajack Creek near Mableton and Allatoona Creek near Mars Hill Road. The warning was "until further notice."

"Heavy rainfall association with the remnants of Hurricane Ida has caused significant runoff into creeks, streams and rivers, causing the rivers to rise," the weather service reported in its warning. "Some points along the river system will experience flooding."

At 5 p.m. Tuesday, Nickajack Creek was at its 10-foot flood stage "and rising," according to the weather service. That is compared to the crest of 10.6 feet the creek rose to during September's flooding. Allatoona Creek hit its flood stage of 13 feet at 4 p.m. Tuesday and was "rising steadily," according to the weather service.

Austell Mayor Joe Jerkins said late Tuesday that the rains were not yet causing an overflow of Sweetwater Creek, but the waterway might rise to Jones Road throughout the night.

According to the Austell Police Department, Sweetwater Creek had reached 9.3 feet late Tuesday night and was still rising. Flood stage for the creek is 10 feet. The levels are expected to rise to 14.8 feet today.

Kennesaw reported one road closure - Rutledge Road between Highway 41 and Old 41. Cobb officials expected North Hembree Road near Shallowford Road to remain closed until 5 a.m. today because of flooding.
