I don't understand why the MDJ Around Town Editors, in the Nov. 3 issue, considered it a mystery when the Cobb County school administrators didn't know what the third grade reading scores were last year, or the last time they were tested. The only question is: Why don't they know? It is their job to know such things. If they really don't know, why can't the super, or the CEO of the school district, use his cell phone to call someone in their Glover Street castle to get the answer? How is it possible that the answer to that question cannot be located in one week?
The only logical answer to all of those questions is not a mystery. It should be obvious that they don't know because the third graders weren't tested. Our school administrators didn't consider that to be important. We all know how busy they are, figuring our how much to cut teachers pay, figuring out how much to raise their own pay, negotiating contracts for the construction of cell towers on school property and figuring out how to cut up the take.
This is not a mystery. This is just one more apt example of how Cobb School District administrators have forgotten what they were hired to do. What's needed in Cobb is to vote all incumbent school board members out of office. Then, eventually, we can start considering what is right for our kids.
