MARIETTA - Voters in four Cobb cities will go to the polls Tuesday, and those in Marietta need to be aware that some polling places have changed.

"We want to encourage everyone to call our voting office on Monday or look at the poll locator if they're unsure where they're voting," said Sharon Dunn, director of the Cobb Board of Elections and Registration.

Changes were made for a variety of reasons.

"Technology has allowed us to reduce our number of precincts and some aren't as suitable as they were in the past," Dunn said. "We regularly make changes on off election years (county and state)."

Dunn predicts 20 to 25 percent of Marietta's 31,337 registered voters will cast ballots in the Nov. 3 election, which features the mayoral race, the parks bond and three contested races each on city council and the school board. During the last contentious mayoral election, in 2001, turnout was 26 percent.

Here's a breakdown on the voting locations for Marietta voters:

* Ward 1 voters should go to the Sixth Grade Academy, 340 Aviation Road, for city and county elections.

* Ward 2 voters who used to vote at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church or Dunleith Elementary School should now go to Hickory Hills Elementary School. Hickory Hills is at 500 Redwood Drive. There is no change for voters who have traditionally used Marietta High School as their polling place.

* Ward 4 voters who voted at Carriage Oaks Clubhouse in the past should now go to the Murray Arts Center to cast their ballots. The Murray Arts Center is at 2250 Stilesboro Road in Kennesaw. Precinct boundaries for Grace Community Church and Tommy Nobis Center were redrawn, and many voters were assigned to a different polling place. Voter Precinct Cards have been sent to voters with the change, Dunn said.

* Ward 6 voters need to go to either Lockheed Elementary School or Mt. Paran North Church of God on Tuesday. East Park Clubhouse is no longer a polling place. Lockheed Elementary School is located at 1205 Merritt Road. Mt. Paran North Church of God is located at 1700 Allgood Road.

* All Ward 7 voters will vote at the Mansour Center for this year only. The Mansour Center is at 995 Roswell Road.

* There are no changes to Wards 3 or 5.

Cobb Elections will also be handling polling in the cities of Kennesaw and Powder Springs on Tuesday. The city of Austell conducts its own elections.

Austell has one contested race, the At-Large Post 1 for city council. Incumbent David O. Traylor is challenged by Trudie A. Causey.

Kennesaw also has only one contested council race. All of that city's council seats are elected citywide, and newcomers Frank I. Cullins and Jeff Duckett have qualified for Post 5. Incumbent Cindy Giles is not seeking reelection.

In Powder Springs, there are two council contests. In Ward 1, incumbent Ra Barr is challenged by Cheryl Sarvis. Ward 3 voters will choose between newcomers Nancy Hudson and Steve Lahr. Incumbent Robert Farmer is not seeking reelection.

Students in all Cobb County schools will have a holiday on Tuesday. Marietta City Schools will be in session.
