SAVANNAH - Georgia police say a misdialed number led two strangers to trade hostile calls and text messages before arranging a meeting where one shot the other.

Savannah-Chatham police spokeswoman Veda Lamar Nichols told a Savannah newspaper in a Wednesday story that 22-year-old Scott Allen Elder faces an aggravated assault charge.

Elder was jailed after 24-year-old Brian Matison was shot in a CVS parking lot around 2:30 a.m. Tuesday.

Nichols said Matison was taken to Memorial University Medical Center in serious condition. She said the two didn't know each other but began arguing through phone calls and text messages after a misdialed number and arranged to meet in the store's parking lot.

Elder was taken to the Chatham County jail.
