Betty Jean Donehoo Smith, 82, of Marietta, died Monday, October 26, 2009. Funeral Services will be held Thursday, October 29, at 3:00 p.m., in the Chapel of Mayes Ward-Dobbins Funeral Home with Reverend Mike Faulkner officiating. Interment will follow at Kennesaw Memorial Park. Betty Jean Smith, born Betty Jean Donehoo in Marietta, Georgia, was the daughter of Dr. Clarence Donehoo and Mrs. Pearl Donehoo, and the sister to three older brothers, Tommy Channell and Bill and Joe Donehoo. The Donehoo family resided on Powder Springs Road just South of the Marietta Square and also in the 'Historic 1848 House' on Pearl Street. Betty was a 1944 graduate of Marietta High School, and in 1948 married Charlie L. Smith, also a Marietta High School graduate. Mr. and Mrs. Smith remained lifelong Marietta residents, where Betty worked for Earl G. Medford and Jimmy Colquitt. Betty was a lifelong member of GracePointe Baptist Church, formerly known as Crestview Baptist Church, where she was an active member of the Faith and formerly Fidelis Sunday School Classes. Betty Jean Smith was an amazing wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, daughter, and most importantly, a Godly woman and a great friend to all who were fortunate enough to know her. Mrs. Smith is survived by her husband of 61 years, Charlie L. Smith; her children, Cheryl Lassiter and husband Stan Lassiter of Marietta; Mike Smith of Knoxville, TN; Brian Smith of Powder Springs; and Tracy Wilson and husband, Kevin Wilson of Marietta; her grandchildren, Brad Smith, Michael Lassiter, Chris Lassiter, Danny Smith, Matthew Smith, and Ben Lassiter; her great grandchildren, James and Eliza Smith and Hannah and Coleman Lassiter; her two sisters in law, Margaret Donehoo and Jimmie Smith, both of Marietta; several nieces and nephews.
