LONG, Horace M.
Horace M. Long went to meet his Lord and Saviour Tuesday, October 20th, 2009 at 1:50am. Rev. Long was born September 14th, 1922 in Gordan County Georgia. He had seven brothers and three sisters. His only living sibling is Willie Beets who is 94. He married Mildred Hill in 1942 and had three children, Patsy Genevieve Hobgood and husband, Doyle of Acworth, GA, Tommy Lee Long and wife, Belinda of Nashville, TN and Monty Dale Long and wife, Patti of Valdosta, GA. Rev. Long had eight grandchildren, Barry Scott Hobgood, Dale Lee Hobgood, Tommy Lee Long Jr, Latease Long Drawdy, Tanner Marie Long, Kevin Scott Long, Justin Dale Long, and Morgan Nicole Long; eight great grandchildren, Jennifer Ruth Hobgood, Christopher Scott Hobgood, Courtney Nicole Long, Avery Clayton Long, Mason Odell McKennon, Brianna Nicole Long, McKenzie Long and Caroline Drawdy. Rev. Long was pastor of nine churches during his 51 years in the ministry. Rose Creek, Fair View in Cartersville and Ball Ground, Little Refuge, Bethany, Indian Knoll, Pleasant Hill, Union Arbor and Mt. Oliver. Horace served in Franklin Roosevelt's Civilian Conversation Corps. (CCC) in 1939 and the U.S. Navy in 1942. He retired from Lockheed Aircraft with 25 years of service and was a precision welder. He had a gift of music playing the guitar, piano, banjo and mandolin. He and his wife, Mildred, sang together in many revivals and funerals and was a true blessing to many people throughout Bartow, Gordon, Cobb, Pickens, Fulton and Cherokee County. He loved the outdoors, working with his hands and helping anyone in need whether it was repairing a lawn mower or just visiting the sick. Pallbearers will be his grandsons and Charles Reece. Visitation will be at Collins Funeral Home in Acworth on October 21st, 12noon until 9pm. The funeral will be at Shady Grove Baptist Church in Acworth on Thursday, October 22nd at 2pm with Reverend Jerry Moody, Jerry Sims, Calvin Ball and Stacey Smith conducting the service with burial at the Shady Grove Cemetery.
