You’ve got to hand it to Jonathan Escobar, the 15-year-old student at North Cobb High School who has made a cause celebre of himself. This kid has a lot of things on his mind, but education doesn’t seem to be one of them.

He’sa teen prodigy, however, when it comes to manipulating the media and his parents.

He has parlayed a few days of wearing women’s clothes to school, and being treated respectfully by administrators, into front-page news in metro Atlanta and a primo guest slot on Wednesday’s “Tyra Banks Show.” Think about it: He couldn’t cut it at home with his parents in Miami and talked them into letting him move to Kennesaw to live with his sister. Then came a couple days at school in stilettos and a pink wig, followed by a few well-placed phone calls to local reporters, and now he’s flying (first class, no doubt) to the Big Apple, where he’ll probably be staying in a first-class hotel and shuttled to the studio and back in a limo. He can expect the process to be repeated as he’s booked on other shows. He’s this week’s “flavor of the week” or, depending on your point of view, “victim of the week.”

Pretty heady stuff for a 15 year old.

Or really pretty dumb for everyone involved in promoting him.
