Thirty days has September and Sybil Parr and Boyd McKeown made the most of each day. Prior to their Sept. 13 wedding, many entertained for the couple, including: Gwen Paul, Virgil and Cathi Reece, Joe and Marilyn Cutcliff and Cheryl and Lonnie Love.

After the nuptials, the celebrations continued the following week with over 75 guests honoring Boyd on his 85th birthday at a Backyard Barbecue at Sybil's Marietta home. Guests were treated to a wonderful video of Boyd's 85 years designed and produced by Lori Brackett, Sybil's daughter.

Mayor Bill Dunaway, a former student of Boyd's at Marietta High, serenaded the crowd with his trumpet rendition of Happy Birthday. Other former students and band members attending included Patsy Spinks Dupree, Judy and Harry DuPre, Sam Huff, Todd Merriman, John Mote, Jane and Tom McElroy and Margarite Wilder.

Boyd and Sybil will culminate their wedding/birthday celebrations with a honeymoon in Switzerland.

For the 18th year in a row, eight friends who graduated from the 1991 class of Leadership Cobb, traveled for a girl friend's getaway. This year's trip was to Hilton Head Island and included fabulous weather at the beach (when, unfortunately, Marietta was amid the deluge), shopping, dining and lots of conversation. Past trips have included destinations such as New York, Boston, Chicago, Nashville and Montana.

Eager travelers included Dee Hammond, Vickie Haynie, Laurel Kovach, Kim Menefee, Vicki Pettit, Beth Sessoms, Diane Vaughan and Diane Webb.

On Oct. 21, the East Cobb Civitan Club will partner with Friends for the East Cobb Park, Inc. to conduct their 18th annual Silent Auction and Wine Tasting at Indian Hills Country Club. The auction and wine tasting start at 6 p.m. The Wine Shop at Parkaire is the premier sponsor for this event.

Proceeds benefit the East Cobb Park and Camp Big Heart as well as scholarships and other community projects for the aged, homeless, handicapped and needy. Last year's auction raised more than $24,000 for these various charities, and accumulated gifts to the Park from this event exceed $84,000.

Tickets are $20. Must be at least 21 years old to attend. For tickets, make your checks payable to East Cobb Civitan Club and mail them to Roselle Wilkinson, 3555 Saxon Way, Marietta, GA 30062. Include return mailing address and phone number. Contact Roselle at RoselleW@bellsouth.net or (678) 548-9635.
