DEAR EDITOR:

Monday my phone rang at 1:30 a.m. I was told there was terrible flooding going on in Paulding County. I stayed up all night listening to the scanner traffic for Paulding and Cobb. I have never been so impressed with our men and women, our heroes, that we have in our police and fire departments. The dispatchers were even incredible. I sent an e-mail to a police officer I know thanking him. He responded how much he needed to hear that.

Shame on me. I don't do enough to thank these brave people. I would like to invite all of you to spread the news and participate in a "Day of Appreciation" on Monday for our local heroes. I would invite everyone in the entire metro Atlanta Area to stop by a fire house or police department with cookies, muffins, bread, doughnuts, spaghetti, anything to say thank you. Or don't bring anything, just show up and thank them in person.
