Thank those who fought flood

DEAR EDITOR:

In the midst of the chaos and devastation caused by the historic storm earlier this week, I believe we should all take pause to thank those who have worked tirelessly and non-stop to restore our services and rebuild our roads so our lives can return to normal as quickly as possible.

While I could not begin to name all of those involved in this monumental task, I can name a few who were involved in "our neck of the woods." Ken Janney and his crew from the Cobb-Marietta Water Authority did an outstanding job repairing a 36-inch water main which restored our water in less than 24 hours. Charles Matthews and Al Eckford had the C.W. Matthews Contracting Co. guys working through the night to open Gordon Combs Road in record time.

Of course, there are countless others to whom we owe our gratitude. Over the coming days and weeks as we pass workers on the street, let's take a moment to stop and offer our thanks for the extra time they give (which no doubt takes them away from their families) to make our lives more comfortable.

I agree with Susan that we should thank all that were involved with the clean up on Gordon Combs Road including the good folks at CW Matthews. Perhaps they are paid overtime, but, in today's economy I would think that might not be the case.

How dare you put private emloyees in the same catagory as our public emplotyees. I a sure that CW Matthews got overtime pay that would not be believed. As far as that goes, I am sure most of their employees know that when there is a disaster their time and efforts may be required- after all I am sure they received very lucrataive overtime benefits - unlike public safety employees. Gety our priorities in order Susan.
