The facility will retain the name of the adjacent Dorsey Manor high-rise, named after the late Annie Dorsey, a community and housing leader in the 1940's and 1950's, and mother of the late Jasper Dorsey, former Southern Bell chief executive officer. The firm also put down the first course of asphalt on all of Kennesaw Avenue ahead of schedule, pulling crews from other construction jobs. MARIETTA READS!, the Marietta City Schools citywide effort to foster reading and literacy in the community, celebrates its seventh-year anniversary Saturday in Glover Park on Marietta Square from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The Marietta High School Poetry Slam begins at 10 a.m. at the Marietta Welcome Center courtyard.
The annual event offers a variety of literacy activities, and family-friendly entertainment, including, balloon artists, face painting, school drama, dance and chorus acts, book fair, book costume characters, book giveaways, celebrity readers, and guest appearances by Marietta Reads! mascot Mari-Etta.
