He moved to Marietta from Perry in 1943 and attended Marietta High School. An outstanding scholar athlete, he was honored to be chosen Mr. MHS 1946. After attending Piedmont College on a baseball scholarship he graduated from Georgia State University with a degree in Business Management. A born athlete, Red, as he was affectionately known, played baseball from his youth and was a topnotch shortstop in the city leagues that were popular in the 40's and 50's. The summer of 1949 he enjoyed playing for the Eastman Dodgers in the Class D League. His passion for sports included basketball, softball, karate and especially tennis. Widely known for his fiery competitive spirit, he was a proud member of an ALTA team which twice won City Championships. His outstanding career in commercial real estate began in 1961 when he joined The Sharp-Boylston Co., the oldest real estate company in Georgia, founded in 1881. He was one of the first brokers to specialize in property in the vicinity of Interstate 75 and I-285 in Cobb County. He and his partner, Marion Blackwell, purchased the company in the 1970's. After selling it in 1996 he continued as Warren Chilton Realty until the time of his death. Highly respected in his profession, he was the recipient of many accolades during his successful career as a realtor. As a member of First United Methodist Church of Marietta since 1943, he faithfully served in many areas: Board of Trustees, Board of Stewards, Finance Committee, Pastor-Parish Relations Committee. Always active in the community, he recently served on the Wellstar Foundation Hospice Board and has served many years on the Board of the Georgia Ballet, working tirelessly on their behalf. Under the direction of the late Iris Hensley, founder of the Georgia Ballet, he participated in many productions, his favorite role being that of Santa Claus in the Nutcracker. Gardening became a hobby later in life and he tackled it with the same intensity that defined all his pursuits, such as traveling, entertaining and dancing. No where was his exuberance for life exhibited more than when he was on the dance floor. He celebrated life to the fullest.
