Is there a such thing as a must win high school football game in Week 3 of the season?

I guess it depends on height of the expectations.

After an 8-3 year in 2008 Kell hung a sign above the door of their weight room which states "2009 Region 6AAAAA Champions"

A loss tonight against Lassiter and the Longhorns dreams of the region title will be all but shattered. But at 0-3 the season is far from over. And just because you don't win the region title doesn't mean you can't win the big prize after the 16th week of the season - i.e. a state title.

But that is not the easiest thing to explain to a 17 or 18 year old kid, whose life revolves around school and the football team. And that likely isn't the message that player is hearing from friends, family members and other people from the neighborhood. They all want to know what's wrong.

No one expected Kell to be 0-2 to start the season. And likely the same people are surprised McEachern or Walker is playing to go 3-0.

There is a lot of football to be played yet. Nobody wins anything in Week 3. For those of you who are fans of teams off to a slow start, or even a fast start. Take a breath. Lets not start panicking yet.

What do you think?
