Yarbrough was right: The enemy is us

DEAR EDITOR:

The state of our nation that Dick Yarbrough describes so succinctly in his recent column is not a new phenomenon. Nor is its formation restricted to any one of our nation's political parties. It is a work in progress that has been slowly built over the past 40 years, in many cases, by the same individuals. It is the painstaking development of a police state, constructed to serve the personal interests of elected representatives of the people who loudly proclaim their love of country and the freedoms it provides. What those greedy, self-serving individuals do not loudly proclaim is that their love of the country and the freedoms it provides is restricted to themselves and their chosen few, while they secretly work for its total destruction.

I have not attended a town hall meeting during the current congressional holiday, nor do I intend to. I have come to know that 90 percent of those who wallow about in the hustings with their mouths flapping are lying through their teeth. I risked my life in a war for four years in a vain attempt to preserve the rights and freedoms that our nation's citizens once enjoyed, only to watch those in power steal it for themselves. I see no purpose in expending any more of my energy in another war to save America, because my experience indicates that what is left for common citizens is a hollow shell that is not worth saving. We have found the enemy and it is us.

Mr. Stoll, the enemy is us but giving up is like dying in while walking; no we must fight on in what ever way we can. This is something I know after fighting in two was for this country, on two different continent, decades apart. I know the politicians, the preachers, and any loud mouth that can grab a microphone will give you all types of lip service but all they want is to get paid or get reelected. I have found after looking at this nation that there are a lot of good people worth fighting for and it is those people I think of not the Politian’s. Remember that is all they do, run for office, you and I and the rest of America have to get up go to work and feed our families and that is the most importance thing to fight for; as far as the politician are concerned there is always election day and I love to see the look on there faces when they finally lose.

You're right but for the wrong reason. People like you who have decided that you have no say have given our representatives the incumbency they need to continue the actions you deride.

The enemy is us but only because we continue to let this happen through apathy like yours.

Mr. Stoll's letter is poignant but spot on accurate. The people who control the media, entertainment, and all opinion-making organs in this country mean to change America into a Socialist paradise for themselves. Guess what? It's a fait accomplii-it's done. The 3 divisions of power belong to a club that none of us qualifies to join. The Congress we perfunctorily elect are all bought, and are in truth useful idiots for the "Club."

We have allowed ourselves to forget history, forget thinking, to become sated, just like the ancient Roman citizens, with 24/7 entertainment.

With the final nail being the takeover of healthcare, which in truth is a Trojan Horse that will seal our fate once and for all, we can kiss good-bye forever our basic freedoms, as the government becomes our parent. Benign and fatherly at first, but growing ever sterner as the warm bath becomes a final scald.
