Elliott wrong on seniors' opposition to health reform

DEAR EDITOR:

In Sunday's Marietta Daily Journal, the column by Judy Elliott criticized senior citizens who express their opinions on the health care overhaul.

She implied that they are a frightened bunch who just wants all they have paid into the system to be returned to them, now.

Well, that is just not true. We realize the threat to pull the plug on Grandma Suzie is a not a rational approach, but Obama's claims that a surgeon will amputate rather than cure a sore foot just to make more money are just as illogical.

Besides, the top health care advisor, Dr. Ezekiel Emanuel, has made some rash statements regarding the rationing of services that are more than scary.

Explain this, Ms. Elliott.

Health care is not free to seniors, but the cost really must be trimmed.

So why not start with tort reform, allowing insurance companies to compete across state lines, creating a net for catastrophic needs, allowing a person to carry his insurance if he changes jobs, and cleaning up fraud and waste with a vengeance? Then stop.

Even if Obama is catching on, the Congress, with its self-accepted well of infinite wisdom, is either too corrupt or too oblivious to care about anything except making a profit for themselves and above all, getting re-elected. But seniors, don't worry!

We can and we must vote them out of office.

Perfectly put, Mr.(?) Huggins. Your third paragraph from the end sums up what is needed quite neatly. Unfortunately, it doesn't do what the Left wants - give away free money from "rich" people to the 15 million or so that should have coverage but elect not to or can't afford it, and to illegals -- all to get closer to the much dreamed of permanent majority where more than 50% of voters live off of government largess - and hence will always vote for those that give them the most free money...every time.
