MCKINNEY, Robert Fera

Robert Fera McKinney, age 84, died August 17, 2009 at home surrounded by his loving family. A resident of Marietta, GA, Mr. McKinney was born in Chicago, IL to Norman and Lavinia Fera McKinney. He graduated from North Fulton High School in 1943. He served in the 61st Armored Infantry Battalion, 10th Armored Division, under General Patton where he was awarded the Bronze Star. He graduated from the University of Georgia in 1949 and remained an avid Bulldog fan for his entire life. He left the carpet industry to takeover the family wood product business in Canton, GA from which he retired in order to spend his remaining years enjoying his family, traveling and Broadway musicals. He is preceded in death by his parents and first wife, Nellie S. McKinney. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Linda W. McKinney. He is also survived by his 4 sons: Robert S. McKinney (Shirley), Norman H. McKinney (Marilyn), James E. McKinney (Angela), and W. Thomas McKinney (Diane); his 7 daughters: Priscilla Harrison (Larry), Nellie Cochran, Charlotte Eaton (Jack), Patti McCoy (L.C.), Elizabeth Crumley (Paul), Cathy Meredith (Randy), and Mary Herrmann (Michael); his 26 grandchildren: Sharyn and Lisa Shoemaker, Stephen and Matthew McKinney, Jocelyn and McClain McKinney, Jeff and Beth Cochran, Josh, Bobby, and Christopher Eaton, Meredith McKinney and Sarah McCoy, Melissa and Danielle McKinney, Mary, Catherine and Michelle Crumley, Gracie, Dylan, and Natalie McKinney, Jessica and Ryan Meredith, and Michael, Andrew, and Mason Herrmann; and his sister: Marcia McCarley (Hugh) and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends at H.M. Patterson and Son, Canton Hill Chapel on Thursday from 6-8 P.M. Funeral services will be Friday, August 21 at 2 P.M. in the chapel of H.M.Patterson & Son with Rev. John Wolf officiating. Burial will follow at Cherokee Memorial Park in Canton, GA.
