Proving that longevity, health and a solid work ethic are all inter-related, Leona Wollesen of Marietta was honored over the Aug. 1 weekend with a two-part birthday celebration.
First, she was joined with friends, family and a few of the local Red Hat ladies for the 10th consecutive year of festivities at the Smyrna Village Green for its annual birthday celebration.
After 54 years of consecutive full-time employment, the last 31 of which were with Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Georgia, Leona still heads the BC/BS Ambassadors Association, remains active in Republican politics, as well local Red Hat organizations.
The second part of the celebration was an island theme party at her home with family, friends, and former professional associates. Among the attendees sharing in the celebrations were area residents Robin and Joe Clements, Margaret and Jack Hudder, Violet Geier, Mary Louise Hammond, Dot Revis, Gertie Arnold and her daughter, Ronda Rattray, and more distant attendees, Leona's daughter Bonnie and husband, Vernon Langford of St. Simon's Island, son, Woody Wollesen of Dickerson, Md., granddaughter, Mendie Langford of Woodstock and Kim and Scott Langford of Douglasville.
South Cobb High School Class of 1979 is hosting their 30th Class Reunion on Sept. 26 at the Hilton Marietta Conference Center in Marietta from 7 to 11 p.m.
Other events will take place throughout the weekend, including a golf tournament at the City Club on Saturday and a family gathering at Laurel Park on Sunday.
