Executive Director of Cobb Landmarks and Historical Society Daryl Barksdale retired after eight years with the organization. She has taken a full-time job as Grants Coordinator for DeKalb Technical College, where she will be administering existing grants and doing research and grant writing.

At its monthly board meeting on July 21 at the Marietta/Cobb Museum of Art, members of CLHS took the opportunity to convey the organization's appreciation to Daryl and to wish her well in her new endeavor. At the end of the business meeting, Education Chair Abbie Parks talked about Daryl's accomplishments to the assembled board members, who were joined on the occasion by Cobb Commission Chair Sam Olens and Cobb Public Services Director Bob Ash. After the board meeting, members adjourned to a delightful reception in the museum's beautiful galleries.

Board members attending the festivities included Skip and Cindy King, Shannon Bohannon, Chris and Cathy Brown, Sue Burgess, Stewart Campbell, Florrie and Jim Corley, Marcelle David, Laurie and Minton Edwards, Jeanine Harper, Colby Henson, Maryellen Higgenbotham, Amy and Greg Linton, Sally and Hugh Macaulay, Jennifer Norris and Mark McMahon, Larry Panetta, Leigh Pharr, Adrian and Jimmy Pressley, Cyndee and John Renshaw, Mary Ansley and James Southerland, Richard Todd, Rose Wing, Leigh Ann and Ray Worden and Larry Zenoni.

Also on hand were Teresa Jenkins of the Marietta Welcome Center, Mandy Elliott of Cobb County's Historic Preservation Commission, Linda Flournoy, Douglas and Rachel Frey, Jim Glover, Jim and Jo-Evelyn Morris and Randy Threatte.

North Cobb High School Class of 74 Reunion is Aug. 22 at 7 p.m. at the Marietta City Club, 510 Powder Springs St., Marietta. There is no charge to attend. Food and drink available for purchase.

Panetta on Board?
|
November 28, 2009
I read this article with shock and disgust. How can Mr. Panetta serve on the Cobb Landmarks Board and the Civil Service Board boasting a love for historical homes/facilities and for the city in general when rumor has it that Mr. Panetta has almost let the Montgomery House go into fore-closure so that he does not have to meet a legal obligation? Once again, it appears that Mr. Panetta is saying one thing and doing another. Is he looking at his interest or the interest of the City of Marietta and/or Historical integrity?
